Child Development Centers, Inc. has been awarded a three year grant from the PA Department of Education to begin a free afterschool program for 80 children in grades K-3. The Program is part of the federal initiative called the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Sites have been created for the Franklin, Valley Grove, Cranberry and Oil City School Districts.
The primary goal of the grant is, by partnering with the local school districts, Child Development Centers, Inc. will provide extra support & boost literacy and math skills. The program is designed by certified teachers to be a fun experience for the students. Students take part in the themes that create fun ways to learn.
Children are engaged in hands-on learning and real life experiences predominately focusing on math and literacy, but also including: arts & crafts, science, physical education, music, computer, service learning projects, community involvement and several field trips, guest speakers, and long term projects. Each location has a Certified Lead teacher and an Assistant Teacher in all classrooms.
Students are bused from their school to Child Development Centers, Inc.for the program. The program is completely free to students registered in one of the four public school districts grades K-3. The after school program runs Monday – Friday and focuses on homework completion, snack, and child driven academic enrichment activities to enhance their school experiences.
