The Importance of Healthy Meals:

Ensuring that children have access to nutritious meals is crucial as it positively impacts their overall well-being and academic performance! To help combat hunger, CDC does the following:

  • Providing a nutritional breakfast and lunch: Starting the day with a balanced and healthy meal is essential for students to concentrate and perform well in their studies. Likewise, offering a nutritious lunch ensures that they stay energized throughout the day.
    • Some meals might be mini burgers with fries, grilled cheese with soup, or bacon with eggs and fruit.
    • Each meal includes juice and milk (Whole and 1%) and condiments.
  • Offering a healthy snack: Providing a healthy snack complements breakfast and lunch and helps in keeping hunger at bay during the school day. It also promotes better eating habits.
  • Accommodating allergies with substitutes: Taking into consideration students with allergies and providing suitable substitutes ensures that no child feels left out and can enjoy nutritious meals without any health risks.
  • Larger food portions on Fridays and Mondays: Recognizing the potential financial challenges some families might face, the decision to provide larger food portions at the beginning and end of the week is a thoughtful approach to combat hunger during the weekends when school meals might not be available.

Overall, this initiative demonstrates a commitment to the well-being and safety of the students beyond just academics. By addressing the nutritional needs of students, CDC is taking a step toward creating a healthier and more inclusive learning environment. It can have a positive and long-lasting impact on the lives of students and their families.
